- Even from the start, Graco parents have been teaming up to help other parents. Graco was founded in 1942 as Graco Metal Products. But the Graco story really begins in 1953, when engineer Rex Thomas dreamed up the company’s first baby product: the Swyngomatic automatic baby swing. Rex Thomas was on the front porch with his wife as she used a string to rock their baby in a swing. Inspired, Rex joined forces with Graco engineer and father of nine David Saint to design the Swyngomatic, the world's first automatic baby swing. The company estimated they’d sell 10,000...but instead, they sold millions, quickly transforming Graco into one of the world’s leading manufacturers of baby gear.
